MP for Miramichi Tilly O’Neill Gordon Announces Launch of 15th Annual Emergency Preparedness Week (May 2 to 8, 2010), encouraging Canadians to take practical steps to prepare for emergencies.
Knowing the risks in your region, making emergency plans and getting emergency kits can help reduce the impact of emergencies on families and communities. Special activities will heighten awareness and encourage Canadians to take steps to be better prepared for a range of emergencies.
Information kits to help you prepare for an emergency will be available at fire halls e across the Miramichi riding. Contact your nearest service location to find out how to get one.
“Emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility among all levels of government,” said Tilly O’Neill Gordon. “But ultimately, emergency preparedness starts at home. Emergencies can strike at any time and anywhere, often with little or no notice. Everyone has a role to play in being better prepared.”
Emergency Preparedness Week is a national campaign coordinated by Public Safety Canada, together with all provinces and territories. First responders (police officers, firefighters, paramedics, etc.), industry, and non-governmental organizations all plan activities for EP Week. It is a collaborative event, supporting activities at the local level.
