OTTAWA, Ontario - Tilly O’Neill Gordon, MP for Miramichi, would like to encourage people throughout the riding to take a moment today to think about the importance of family in their lives.

Fifteen years ago, the United Nations designated May 15 as International Day of Families. Every year on this day, we celebrate the importance of families in communities across our country. This day also draws attention to the difficulties that families face, particularly in times of worldwide economic upheaval.

Here in Canada, we have reason to be proud,” said Ms. O’Neill Gordon. “Our government understands the importance of strong families and we will continue to do our utmost to support Canadian families. Our government has made families with children one of its priorities. We recognize the diversity of families and their needs.
