Finance Minister Jim Flaherty to Visit Miramichi
January 07, 2010

Miramichi, New Brunswick – Having hosted a number of ministers, including Prime Minister Stephen Harper, in the riding of Miramichi in 2009, MP Tilly O’Neill Gordon is set to begin 2010 by hosting none other than the Minister of Finance, Jim Flaherty.

“I am very proud to have the opportunity to welcome so many government members to our riding. It shows that our residents’ interests are being taken into account,” said Ms. O’Neill Gordon.

In the early afternoon on Monday, January 18, the Hon. Jim Flaherty will meet with businesspeople at a round table in Miramichi.

“It is important to listen to Canadians from coast to coast to get their views on how best to implement the second year of our Economic Action Plan,” said Mr. Flaherty. “I and my colleagues have been consulting with people across the country and I’m very pleased to be coming to New Brunswick and specifically Miramichi to talk to people here.”

Afterwards the Minister, who has Irish roots, will go to Loggieville to greet distant relations who share his family name.

“My father was born in Loggieville and I’m looking forward to my first visit there,” added Mr. Flaherty.

Mr. Flaherty and Ms. O’Neill Gordon and their political entourage will hold a business meeting between two social events.

The first event will be held at the Rodd Miramichi Hotel at 1809 Water, in Miramichi. A second event with the Minister will be held for supporters. It will be an excellent opportunity to meet the Minister of Finance in person.
