International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer
September 15, 2009

Ottawa, Ontario – For more than 15 years, countries around the world have celebrated the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer on September 16. Tilly O’Neill Gordon, MP for Miramichi, would like to take this opportunity to highlight the importance of changing our consumption patterns.

“Environmental issues have always been one of my priorities. Even though our country has made a lot of progress in the last few years, the environment is still at risk, said O’Neill Gordon. “It is important that each and every one of us knows that, as individuals, we can have a positive impact.”

In 1985, in addition to the shrinking ozone layer around the entire planet, a hole was discovered in the southern hemisphere above Antarctica.

Nations around the world are invited to celebrate the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer by encouraging concrete action.

“Let’s take the opportunity this day provides to focus our attention and action on preserving the ozone layer and increasing public awareness,” concluded O’Neill Gordon.
