M.P. Tilly O’Neill-Gordon and M.P. Mike Allen Hold Roundtable on Behalf of Natural Resources Minister

Miramichi – Local MP Tilly O’Neil-Gordon is wasting no time in ensuring local forest industry needs are heard in Ottawa. O’Neil-Gordon joined fellow Conservative MP Mike Allen in hosting a roundtable in Miramichi today on behalf of Natural Resources Minister, Lisa Raitt.

“Today’s roundtable was an opportunity for our local community to share their views on what our Government can do in the coming Budget to help our community and industry get through these challenging times,” said O’Neil-Gordon. “Our Government understands that workers, families and communities like the one in the Miramichi Riding are feeling firsthand the effects of the global economic slowdown. That’s why we are sitting down with Canadians and asking what we can do to help.”

On January 27, 2009 Canadians will be presented with a Budget designed to guide Canada through these uncertain times. The roundtable in Miramichi is part of a country-wide effort to hear from those Canadians who are feeling first-hand the effects of slowdowns in the forestry, mining and energy sectors and solicit their views on what they would like to see in the Budget.

“We know that workers and families in communities like Miramichi are facing tremendous challenges,” said Allen. “However, those workers, families and communities can count on our Government to stand with them and help them overcome these challenges.”
